{"id":7919,"date":"2019-09-30T04:48:06","date_gmt":"2019-09-30T04:48:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/churchedge.com\/illustrations\/index.php\/2019\/09\/30\/helping-the-homeless-movie-star-2\/"},"modified":"2019-09-30T04:48:06","modified_gmt":"2019-09-30T04:48:06","slug":"helping-the-homeless-movie-star-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.churchedge.com\/illustrations\/helping-the-homeless-movie-star-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Helping the Homeless Movie Star"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A French tourist visiting New York City made headlines this week as she offered food to one whom she assumed to be a homeless man.  \u201cI gave my doggy bag to a homeless [man], and the homeless is Richard Gere,\u201d Karin Gombeau told ABC News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was going through a [garbage] bin, I had food with me,\u201d she said.  \u201cI thought, \u2018He should have my pizza instead of going through that bin.\u2019  \u201c<\/p>\n<p>Gombeau looked right into the eyes of the \u201chomeless\u201d man and did not recognize him to be a famous Hollywood A-lister.  He was dressed in tattered clothes and appeared quite dirty and disheveled.<\/p>\n<p>No, Gere is not down on his luck and living on the streets of NYC.  \u201cIt turns out,\u201d reports ABC Entertainment News, \u201cGombeau had stumbled onto the set of Gere\u2019s new movie, \u2018Time Out of Mind,\u2019 in which Gere, 64, plays a homeless man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was dressed in a way, with a cap, not shaved,\u201d she said of the actor\u2019s unbecoming appearance.  \u201cHe looked like a man going through a rough time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gere never broke character.  He took the leftovers from her, thanked her, and said, \u201cGod bless you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gombeau had no idea whom she had \u201chelped\u201d until seeing her picture the next morning on the news.  Yup, the whole thing was caught on camera!  (Click the link to source above for a picture.)<\/p>\n<p>Gombeau was delighted to learn the truth behind her act of charity.  \u201cFor a first time in New York, I could not have wished for better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Who hasn\u2019t come across someone who is down on their luck?  In those moments, no one expects that the person in need might turn out to be an important celebrity, or that an act done in secret will be splashed across the news.  Think again.<br \/>\n     \u201cWhen did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?\u201d  The King will reply, \u201cTruly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me\u201d (Matthew 25:39-40).<\/p>\n<p>\u201c &#8230; good deeds done in secret will someday come to light\u201d (1 Timothy 5:2).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done\u201d (Proverbs 19:17).<br \/>\nEvery kindness, every act of compassion done in God\u2019s name is received as if it is done for Him.
