The Only Empirically Verifiable Christian Doctrine

Theologian Reinhold Niebuhr called the doctrine of original sin the only empirically verifiable Christian doctrine.

[Holwick: Yancey attributed the statement to famous agnostic George Bernard Shaw but I cannot find anyone else who does. Others attribute it to G. K. Chesterton, who did write that Original Sin “is the only part of Christian theology which can really be proved,” by which he meant that the fact of sin is “a fact as practical as potatoes.”]
