The Narita Divorce

Isao Yamamoto, discusses a phenomenon in Japan called the “Narita divorce.” I’ll paraphrase the story for you:

The name “Narita” comes from the airport outside of Tokyo. Apparently, Narita divorces occur in two instances. The first is shortly after older couples see their children off for their honeymoon at the Narita airport. And the second is when some younger couples return to Narita from their honeymoon!

The moral of the Narita divorce story is that when a shared vision is lost — be it holding together the marriage “for the kids,” or whatever — or if it fails to change to reflect some new realities — a long-standing partnership can fail.
