Verlyn Mack of Hammond, Indiana, was a 3-4 pack a day smoker, 18 years ago was told he had cancer and only 2 years to live. He wrote his obituary but did not die. He now talks to young people about dangers of smoking – formaldehyde in tobacco and asbestos in the wrappers. Verlyn is religious and believes God wanted to keep him around to talk against cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. He has spoken to over 40,000 people in clubs, churches, schools, etc. Cancer took half his voice box, took away some nerves in face and neck, his spine has had 27 cobalt treatments, and his stomach has swollen.
