Gilbert West and Lord Littleton were two brilliant skeptics of another day. They made fun of Christians and Christianity. One day they decided that in order to defeat Christianity they must explain away the resurrection and the change in Paul and his influence on history. One of them said, “I’ll study the resurrection and write a treatise showing the fallacy of it.” The other one said he would write about Paul. They agreed to meet several weeks later and publish their findings. On the given day they came together and Lord Littleton said, “West, what have you to say?” He replied, “I must be honest, I studied the resurrection of Christ and found it to be absolutely true. I saw myself as a sinner, I trusted Him as my Saviour and now I have peace for the first time in my life.” “Thank God for that,” said Littleton, “I studied the conversion and the life of Paul and, like him, I saw myself as the chief of sinners, and on my knees I became a Christian.” Oh, I tell you, only Christ can take men like that and make them over into the image of God.
