Ms. Malathi was born into a Hindu family and brought up in that religion. She knew about Jesus but always thought that he was one of the gods. One day, a woman in her neighborhood gave her a Bible. Her family did not own a TV and there wasn’t much in the way of entertainment so she started to read the Bible.
As she read the Gospels she was surprised. In Hinduism, gods came to rescue good people from their enemies’ hands, but Jesus Christ came and gave his life for sinners. This grabbed her interest and she continued reading the Scripture regularly. She noticed that her behavior started to change day by day. Eventually she made a decision to become a Christian.
Her desire to know and serve Jesus grew and it motivated her to enroll in the Jubilee Memorial Bible College in Chennai, southeast India. However, the classes were conducted in English, which she did not know well, and on her very first day she dropped out and went home. Fortunately she returned to spend a year mastering English and taking a pre-theology course and she continues in her studies there.
