Jonathan Edwards outlines 5 marks of a genuine Christian movement in “The Distinguishing Marks of a Work of the Spirit of God”:
1. Jesus exalted as Savior and Son of God.
2. Opposes Satan and sin.
3. Teaches people to revere and trust Bible.
4. Makes people aware of eternity and their lostness without Christ.
5. Stirs up in them new love of Christ and others.
The Great Awakening had these marks. Packer then applies them to charismatic movement.
