At a packed service May 1, 1988, elders at Grace Chapel in Lexington, Massachusetts, declared an end to Gordon MacDonald’s restoration. Seven men helped him through the 10 month process. His affair was in 1984 and he confessed it to his wife in the fall of 1986. In early 1987 he confessed to 3 national evangelical leaders and they advised against a public confession. On June 5 he resigned from InterVarsity because an anonymous letter accused him of adultery. The MacDonalds were reinstated as members of Grace Chapel in the fall of 1987. His focus now will be on small groups and writing.
He has met several other leaders who are carrying secrets.
