Guilt Can Be Paralyzing

Guilt can be paralyzing.

The movie “Joy Luck Club” is about the background of three Chinese girls. It is a true story. The mother was in China when the Communist revolution happened. She fled with her twin daughters in a carriage and was so exhausted, and suffering from pneumonia, that she felt she had no strength to go on. She put her babies under a tree with some jewelry, then went back on the road and collapsed. Someone took her to a hospital and she was later evacuated to the United States.

For rest of her life she lived in guilt. She spent days weeping in the middle of a room, catatonic. At the end of the movie she finds out her daughters had survived. She dies before meeting them, but her youngest daughter goes over to China to meet her half-siblings.

Guilt causes our lives to freeze, but God wants us free.
