I read a very interesting newspaper clipping. It told of a British man who died this spring (1999). He was quite a character – 2 or 3 days AFTER his funeral his friends started getting signed postcards from him. The cards said “wish you were here” and were signed by him with the address “Celestial City”. The postcards had pictures of angels on them. The cards were authentic – before he died he had written them and asked a friend to mail them on the day of his funeral.
This same man also had a VERY UNUSUAL request in his will – HE ASKED TO BE BURIED WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER!! I can only assume that he wanted the fire extinguisher in case hell was real — so that he could battle or stop hell’s flames!!
This is NOT the way to prepare for eternity. So how can you be ready for eternity? So how can you be ready for heaven?
Heaven is for the friends of God. We ALL can be His friends. It’s as simple as ABC:
A- Admit to God that you have done wrong and ask for forgiveness of your
sins.
B- Believe in Lord Jesus Christ as your only hope of heaven.
Jesus died for our sins so we wouldn’t have to pay for them ourselves
None of us can ever be good enough to earn our way into heaven.
C- Confess out loud that Jesus is your Lord (boss/master).
You are dear and precious to God and He holds the keys to your destiny and eternal happiness. We all have a void in our lives that nobody but God can fill. So open up to Him through faith in His Son Jesus and He will open up Himself to you. Then you won’t need to be buried with a fire extinguisher!!
